About The Shoofly Village Ruin

The Shoofly Village ruins are located on 3.75 acres on the Houston Mesa just outside of the town of Payson, Arizona. This small village housed as many as 250 people and was occupied somewhere between 1000 and 1300 AD. Many parts of the village are still visible as you follow the many trails around the site. In its prime, it had at over 80 structures including a large building that contained 26 rooms and was possibly two stories high in some places.

Wagon Wheel Third Crossing - East Verde River

After we finished exploring the history of the Shoofly Village Ruins, we headed over to the third crossing at Wagon Wheel / The East Verde River.

This is a beautiful spot to sit and relax for the afternoon and enjoy a picnic.  We found some hiking trails along the river as well as some amazing river views.  Although we didn’t bring our fishing poles with us, this is a great spot to catch some trout.
